Kayla & Mikey’s Spring Wedding at Thumper Pond Resort

Some love stories begin with a chance meeting, but Kayla and Mikey’s started long before either of them realized it.

Their dads were roommates at Hillcrest Academy and remained lifelong friends, so the two grew up knowing each other through family reunions and Kubb tournaments. Years later, they became friends while attending Hillcrest together, dated in high school, and although life eventually took them in different directions, their story wasn’t over. Years later, they found their way back to each other – and this time, forever.

When it came time to propose, there really wasn’t a more fitting place than the US National Kubb Championship. With both of their families deeply involved in the Kubb community, Mikey surprised Kayla during what she thought was simply an interview for a documentary about the sport. Instead, it became one of the biggest surprises of her life, and the beginning of planning their wedding day.

Thumper Pond Resort in Ottertail was the perfect setting for their spring wedding. Surrounded by fresh greens, soft florals, and family who had been part of their story from the very beginning, the entire day felt relaxed, and full of meaningful moments. Kayla envisioned portraits on the golf course with open grassy views instead of wooded areas, and the venue couldn’t have been a more beautiful backdrop.

One of my favorite parts of their day was how intentionally they celebrated family. So many of the people surrounding them had watched their relationship grow over the years, and you could feel that history in every hug, every laugh, and every happy tear throughout the day. From the matching getting-ready pajamas to the father-daughter and mother-son dances, every part of the celebration reflected the people who mattered most to them.

Kayla and Mikey, thank you for trusting us to capture the beginning of this next chapter together. It was such an honor to celebrate alongside your families and document a love story that truly came full circle.
