Baby GIRL Grundyson is due at the end of December 2020! We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome this little one into our family. The last few years of growing our family hasn’t been the easiest – it’s been a journey just like it is for each and every family. We’ve navigated miscarriage, to pregnancy, a traumatic birth and difficult postpartum, another pregnancy, then another loss, and now here we are. We have a healthy baby girl on the way! God has been so faithful through it all and we are excited to see where He takes our family in the years to come. Each of our babies (whether we get to hold them here on earth or in Heaven) mean the world to us. Such little blessings.
I haven’t been great about documenting this pregnancy – life has been a little crazy due to the pandemic, a busy work schedule, and chasing a toddler around! Ha! So here’s a little recap of the first 20 weeks!
FINDING OUT WE WERE PREGNANT
We found out we were pregnant in the beginning of May – we were so happy and thankful for another pregnancy and so were our close friends and family. Due to our history of miscarriage, I had some extra blood work and ultrasounds done early. If I’m being honest, this always brings on anxiety because we’ve had really bad experiences with walking into an ultrasound room expecting everything to be fine and then finding out it’s not. My blood work all came back looking good so I had the first ultrasound around 6 weeks. I was SO nervous for this ultrasound and unfortunately due to covid-19 policies, Caleb had to stay in the parking lot. I remember laying on the table in the room alone before the ultrasound repeating bible verses in my head to stay calm. When I finally got to see the little heart beat flickering, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief and then head out to share the good news with Caleb.
We also went in to Blooming Baby Ultrasound after I had an emergency root canal at 11 weeks to make sure baby was doing well! Such a great experience! It was fun to be able to see baby on the big screen and watch it jump all over!
HOW I’VE FELT SO FAR
You may remember with Caden’s pregnancy that I was super sick! I threw up 5-10 times per day through my entire pregnancy… it was not fun! Even with our last pregnancy that we lost in 2019, I threw up multiple times per day – so as much as I always hope that the next pregnancy is better… I know that there’s a good chance this is how my body handles babies π
This pregnancy with baby girl hasn’t been too much different. I lost around 10 pounds right away in the first trimester thanks to nausea and vomiting. My doctor diagnosed me with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) which is a pregnancy complication that causes severe nausea, vomiting, weight loss, dehydration, etc. I had all of those symptoms plus migraines for the first 20 weeks. I did go in for some infusions of fluid and vitamins and I felt SO much better!
I’m currently 21 weeks and although I’m still dealing with a lot of nausea and some vomiting – I’m able to keep functioning which is always a plus!
A few photos from the end of first trimester and the beginning of second! We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary on July 18th while we shot a wedding in Grand Forks, had family photos taken by the amazing Abby Anderson, and Caden loved wearing his big brother shirt!
I’ve been terrible about taking bump photos but this one was around 20 weeks pregnant at our last wedding!
FINDING OUT WE WERE HAVING A BABY GIRL
Patience is not something we’re great at π So as soon as I could take the Sneak Peek gender test, I did! We took this test with Caden and it was spot on. So we assumed when our result came back with our current pregnancy that we were having a boy, it was right! We told our close friends and family and much to our surprise, this time our test was wrong!
We walked into our 20 week ultrasound and the tech asked us if we wanted to find out gender. We told her we already knew from the sneak peek test but wanted to confirm we were actually having a baby boy. We should have known when it was taking a while to find out if it was a boy or girl that maybe our test was wrong… when she showed us a side view of baby and said that we were having a girl, we were SO shocked!! I thought she was joking and Caleb asked her how sure she was… 90%? Ha! She confirmed multiple times with the ultrasound that we are indeed having a baby girl and we are so happy! It was very entertaining telling our families that the test was wrong and a baby girl was on the way. Everyone was so surprised!
We are scheduled for a c-section at the end of December and can’t wait to meet her! Caden’s going to be such a great big brother! Thanks for all the love and support throughout our journey!
