Caden | One Month Old

Mar 22, 2019

We have a ONE month old!! Caleb and I cannot believe how fast the last four weeks have went by. It has been such a whirlwind but such an amazing time in our life!

For those who didn’t see on social media, we had our sweet boy on February 21st, 2019 at 2:12am. He was 7 pounds 13 ounces and 20 inches long. His entrance into this world was a bit crazy – I ended up having to have a c-section after pushing for 90 minutes due to a few different factors. They believe I had an infection in my amniotic fluid which caused fetal tachycardia and Caden was sunny side (he didn’t move at all while I was pushing). I also had a spinal block that didn’t work correctly so I was put under general anesthesia. After the birth, Caden was in the NICU for 48 hours getting antibiotics in case he had the infection. It was a crazy night but we are SO glad that Caden and I are healthy and safe. Maybe some day I’ll get around to sharing his full birth story on the blog!

Caden has been a great baby so far! Here are a few highlights of the last 4 weeks:

FOOD: We initially had nursing issues because he was used to bottles from the NICU (Caleb was able to spend a lot of time bonding with him and giving him bottles as I was recovering!). After working with an amazing lactation nurse, things are going much better overall!

SLEEP: Ha! What is sleep? We aren’t getting much at this point, but I’m pretty sure that’s to be expected! 🙂 We’ve been working on figuring out the best system to get rest, but our little guy likes to eat every 2 hours so at the moment we’re soaking up this season of life even if we are tired!

HEALTH: Caden’s newborn screening flagged him for a possibility of having cystic fibrosis. We went through extra testing on March 18th to find out more information and we are SO thankful that he is just a carrier of the gene (like Caleb or I probably are) and he is a healthy, growing boy. Initially the doctors were worried about his growth, but everything seems to be on track now.

Caleb and I want to thank everyone for all of the love, support, meals, gifts, and visits! We are absolutely in love with Caden and couldn’t be more grateful to God for this little blessing!

The photos below are a mix of beautiful photos from my dear friend, Amber of Amber Langerud Photography, myself, and our iPhones! 🙂
